ABOUT THE EBO/MEBO

What Is The EBO?

The Matoaca Explorers Booseter Organization (MEBO) is a parent-supported group for the Center-Based Gifted program at Matoaca Middle School. As a resource for parents, teacher, and students, the organization provides information about CBG activities and volunteer opportunities. MEBO publishes an annual directory of students' names and phone numbers to facilitate communication within the CBG community. Our activities also include hospitality for various student and teacher events, as well as providing financial support to teachers, teh school, and the library to enhance the learning experience of our students.





MEBO Board Positions

President: Conducts monthly meetings, invites suggestions for programs, support, fundraising, delegates job responsibilities, oversees MEBO work, works with administration to promote CBG program, and looks for ways MEBO can help the CBG program. Appoints committee chairs.

Vice-President: Acts in the capacity of President when he/she is not available. Supervises MEBO programs such as an annual meeting, guest speakers, help with Spring Open House, coffees, and others. Administers by-laws.

Secretary: Attends monthly meetings and takes notes. Writes up meeting notes and distributes through e-mail with copies at meetings. Notifies board members of meetings. Attends to any correspondence.

Treasurer: Maintains the MEBO checkbook. Shares signing authority with Secretary. Provides monthly financial information at Board Meetings. Provides a year end statement after the 6/30 year end.

EBO Coordination: Contact person with other Middle School EBOs.

MEBO Commitee Chairs


PTA Liaison: Attends the monthly meetings of the Matoaca Middle School PTA and reports to the MEBO any upcoming events or discussions pertinent to the CBG program. The Liaison will also report CBG concerns, problems, or comments back to the PTA.

Gifted Advisory: Attends the monthly meetings of the Chesterfield County gifted advisory council and reports to the MEBO any upcoming events or discussions pertinent to the CBG program. Will also report CBG concerns, problems, or comments back to the Council.  The Gifted Education Advisory Committee is comprised of 21 members approved by the Chesterfield County Public Schools School Board.  The  purpose of the committee is to advise the School Board through the Superintendent of the educational needs of all gifted students in the division. Members include parents, professional staff and community members from each of the magisterial districts.  Members serve a staggered 3-year term rotation beginning in July, and they reflect the ethnic composition of the school division and include representatives from the elementary, middle and high school level.    Annually, a written report is submitted to the School Board and Superintendent which reviews plan implementation and includes recommendations for program improvement.  The committee meets 5 times a year and the meetings are open to the public. 

Hospitality: Plans refreshments for various events, soliciting volunteers and help from CBG parents (mostly through e-mail).

Website Coordinator: Maintains MEBO website

Directory Coordinator: Compiles information from CBG parents and produces a yearly directory.

E-mail Coordinator: Sends out MEBO communications.

Social Programs: Coordinate events and activities for the students.

MEBO Board Meetings

Meetings are scheduled approximately once per month and are shown on our CBG Calendar. All parents are welcome to attend our meetings.
